Karl Lagerfeld to stage the 26th Biennale des Antiquaires

When he’s not designing Chanel‘s or Fendi‘s newest collection, collaborating with Net-a-Porter.com, Macy’s or even redesigning France’s highway worker uniforms, Karl Lagerfeld is almost certainly working on his next project. At the nexus between fashion, art, music and culture, the Kaiser is always seeking to outdo himself with his latest endeavor. For his next big work, Karl will be scenographer for France’s prestigious 26th Bienniale des Antiquaires at the the Grand Palais in the Fall. Given his fastidious attention to intrinsic beauty and opulent detail, one can expect an art collection that will only rival that of the Louvre. With a selection of pieces that span over 1000 years and over 6 continents, including creations by Rembrandt Bugatti, Serge Poliakoff, Sonia Delaunay, Etienne Dinet, Felix Ziem, Charlotte Perriand, Paul Evans, Cezanne, Yves Klein, jean Dubuffet, Pierre Soulages, Joan Mitchell, Eugene Printz, Djo Bourgeois, Michel Duffet, Armand Albert Rateau, Marc Chagall to name a few. The whole world will have an in-depth opportunity to see some of the greatest treasures known to man, all under one roof.

To welcome the newest addition to the biannual art event, the French Consulate, Philippe Lalliot and Dominique Levy host to NY’s who’s who of the art and fashion scenes. Set inside the grandiose chamber of the consulate building, guests sipping on champagne and nibbling on hors d’oeuvres got a quick glimpse of the collection vis-a-vis the Antiquaires press kit. In it, you quickly get a sense of the grandeur to come. With booths designed by Jaques Grange and Peter Marino, think of the most over-the-top Chanel show only with more eye candy and an obscene number of covetable paintings, manuscripts, furniture, drawings, books, rugs, tapestries, coins, medals, sculptures, and jewelry that could make anyone want to become an amateur cat burglar. The latter will be especially jaw dropping-ly gorgeous for the fashionistas as it will feature pieces from Chanel, Dior, Van Cleef and Arpels, Piaget, Chaumet, Harry Winston, Bulgari, Boucheron, and Cartier. And while the exhibit will be primarily a Parisian affair, American dealers will be well represented by New York’s L&M Arts and Marlborough Gallery.

If you’re looking for your next great art-escape, look no further than this not-to-be missed Parisian art exhibition which bows on September 14th through the 23rd.
